Lochinver itself is a delightful fishing village on the rugged coastline of North West Sutherland, a spectacular two hour drive from the Highland capital of Inverness, passing through the small port of Ullapool.

Lochinver has a number of restaurants to choose from ranging from wholesome pub grub to award winning menus.  There are two self service stores, butcher/green grocer, newsagent, Post Office, a branch of The Royal Bank of Scotland and a medical centre with two resident Doctors.  There is a state of the art visitor centre, gift shops and hardware store that has almost everything from a needle to an anchor including clothing and fishing tackle, and those of you who like to stay active, head on over to the harbour to the local leisure centre, where you will also find internet access. All this and more all within walking distance from Tigh-na-mara.

Wildlife is all around you both inland along the coast and out at sea including Red deer, Roe deer, Golden Eagles, Otters, Seals, Whales, Dolphins, Black and Red Throated divers, Great Northern divers and more....

Come at the right time of year and you can witness a traditional Highland games or see one of the many plays and performances from performers from around the world put on during the summer at the local village hall including of course traditional Scottish Ceilidh’s.

If you are after peace and quiet, pure clean air, beautiful starry skies and a wide range of activities and touring routes you would be hard pushed to find anywhere better!
